Birgunj (Parsa): In a major boost to Nepal’s industrial export potential, Prestige Carpet Industries, located in the Bara-Parsa Industrial Corridor, has officially begun exporting carpets to third countries beyond India. The company started by exporting 30,000 square meters of carpets to destinations including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kenya, and the United States, through the Birgunj Dry Port last Thursday.
Entering the Global Market After India
According to Aman Shah, United Director of the industry, Prestige Carpet had previously only exported to India, but after years of effort, the company has now broken into the international market.
"We are pleased to announce that our carpets worth Rs 10 million have now reached global destinations," Shah said.
"This marks a significant milestone in our journey."
Employment and Capacity
The carpet factory, located in Jitpur-Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-23, has generated employment for 100 people and has an impressive production capacity of 2 million square meters annually. Carpet prices range between Rs 900 and Rs 4,000 per square meter, catering to various market demands.
The industry has been in operation for the past five years and has seen an investment of around Rs 400 million.
Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Milestone
President of the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hari Gautam, welcomed the move as a positive step for Nepal’s economy.
"It is encouraging to see industries importing raw materials, processing them locally, and successfully exporting finished goods internationally," he said. "This is a proud moment for our industrial sector."
The achievement by Prestige Carpet Industries reflects the growing export potential of Nepali manufacturing, especially from the Bara-Parsa Industrial Corridor, a key hub for trade and industry.
